Head of Development Control
for the attention of Val Cheeseman
Horsham District Council
Park House, North Street
Horsham RH12 1RL
Dear Ms Cheeseman
DC/07/0979 MEDLEYS, COMPTONS BROW LANE, HORSHAM
I write on behalf of the Horsham Society to enter an
objection to this application.
The Society notes that the proposal is an outline
applicaton to erect 3 x 4-bed houses, 2 x 3-bed houses
and 5 x 1-bed flats, a density of 43 dwellings per
hectare. While national policy may allow densities as
high as 50 dwellings per hectare the same policy
emphasises the need for actual densities to have
regard to the context.
In this case the area was originally developed for
family homes at a density of 4 houses per acre (10
houses per hectare). The increased density now
proposed would only be possible by building on the
gardens of these houses and the Society therefore
considers that it amounts to unacceptable
over-development.
The Society further notes that the elevation to
Comptons Brow Lane may be misleading as the ground
rises some 2m towards the rear of the site.
Yours sincerely
Oliver Palmer
Vice-President, The Horsham Society
