Planning: letters of
representation |
July 2008 |
20 July 2008
Head of Development
for the attention of Wendy Harris
Horsham District Council
Park House, North Street
Horsham RH12 1RL
Dear Ms Harris
DC/08/1365 36-48 Queen Street, Horsham
I write on behalf of the Horsham Society to object to
the proposal.
The Society notes that the proposal is for a
three-storey extension for 4 x 1-bedroom and 4 x
2-bedroom flats above the car park fronting Queensway
at the south end of the site of Premier House. The
Society also notes that the carpark provides a degree
of separation between the commercial character of the
properties in Queen Street, including Premier House
and the residential character of the dwellings in
Queensway.
The Society has no objection to the proposal in
principle and has considered two options - to match
the existing building or to introduce a different
design.
The Society considers that an extension to match the
existing, whether a continuation or a separate block,
would result in an elevation of a length conflicting
with the scale of the area. It therefore welcomes the
introduction of a different design reflecting the
different use and maintaining the variety which
characterises the area.
However the Society also considers that the extension
should be limited in height to three storeys and
should not directly adjoin the existing but should be
in the form of a linked block to provide a transition
between the different designs.
Yours sincerely
Oliver Palmer
Vice-President, The Horsham Society |
