 Planning: letters of representation

April 2008

10 April 2008

Head of Development
for the attention of Steven Booth
Horsham District Council
Park House, North Street
Horsham RH12 1RL

Dear Mr Booth

DC/08/0448 5a-13 Guildford Road, Horsham

I write on behalf of the Horsham Society to object to this application.

The Society notes that thie application is for the demolition of five houses and the building of a care home with 35 1-bedroom and 15 2-bedroom apartments with communal facilities.

The Society has always regarded the principal roads entering the town - of which the Guildford Road is one - as having a special character providing, as they do, a valued transition between the built-up area and the open countryside beyond.  This opinion is widely held and frequently remarked on.  However, while the five houses proposed to be demolished are typical of the detached, two-storey houses in the area the proposed building would, in marked contrast, present a continuous part three-storey frontage markedly out of character with the area.

Yours sincerely

Oliver Palmer
Vice-President, The Horsham Society
