Wind turbines for Horsham?
Horsham District
Council has recently approved a planning application
for a wind turbine at Forest School. The Horsham
Society is keen to embrace 'green' technology and
feels that alternative sources of power must be
considered, but nevertheless feels that ad hoc
installations of this kind may not be cost effective,
causing considerable environmental impact for little
benefit.
The Government has
recently consulted about proposals which would remove
the need for planning permission for most domestic
microgenerators such as wind turbines and solar
panels. We have objected and suggested that the
proposed safeguards for Conservation Areas (broadly
that planning consent will be required if the
apparatus can be seen from the front of the building)
should apply in all cases.
