The Town Hall
The Society has
opposed
proposals to convert this old building to offices or
an exclusive restaurant, and feels that it should
continue to be freely available for access by the
public, providing a
location for small concerts, amateur plays and
exhibitions.
Nevertheless there
is a real problem with continuing public access
because the building falls short of the requirements
for disabled access. The Council has recently
appointed consultants to prepare a feasibility study
into its future use, and the Horsham Society is among
the groups that will be consulted.
Horsham District Council is once again
considering plans to lease the Town Hall to a
commercial tenant, after learning that historic
buildings are in great demand as quality restaurant
premises. The Society will continue to oppose
this course of action, and has written to HDC leader
Mrs Elizabeth Kitchen - follow the link below to read
this. There is also a link to HDC's Report to
Council regarding the future of the Town Hall..
