Old Kings Head Hotel

Horsham's only town centre hotel has been closed since 2004 and its future is uncertain.  The Society has always maintained that the listed status of this landmark building must be respected and would strongly oppose any move to change its outward appearance.

Planning permission was granted for conversion from 42-bed hotel to 17-bed hotel plus shops, restaurants & offices but, despite occasional rumours of an impending sale, the building remains boarded up.  The owners have recently applied for change of use but it is unclear what is planned.

The Society is concerned that the continued closure of this building and under-use of the Town Hall create a very uninviting atmosphere in this important part of the town centre.

February 2008 update

Taking the initiative on this sensitive issue, Society chairman John Steele has written to HDC urging it to acquire the Kings Head through compulsory purchase!
