A design statement
provides a detailed guide to the character of a town
or village, and explains what makes the buildings and
landscape distinctive. It suggests how the
planning and design of future changes, large or small,
can respect and enhance what we value about our
buildings, street scenes and open spaces. Once
adopted by Horsham District Council it will become
part of the planning policy when applications are
assessed.
The Horsham Society
is part of a community group - including Denne, Forest
& Trafalgar Neighbourhood Councils and North Horsham
Parish Council - working with the support of Horsham
District Council to produce a design statement for
Horsham.
A Launch Exhibition
was held on 9 & 10 March 2007. Horsham Society
Chairman John Steele said: "We had a good attendance
at the exhibition and a very positive response from
visitors. The photographs covering each of the
neighbourhoods drew a lot of interest and many
residents - some of long standing - were clearly
surprised by the variety and quality of our built
environment. The next stage is to analyse the
responses to our questionnaire." (Its not too late to
complete one. A copy can be found here, and the
closing date is 23 March). For more information

Exhibition Boards.
